Chevron’s “Company Town” Fights Back: An Interview with Gayle McLaughlin

Dear friends:

Welcome to my new website. I look forward to continuing to update the public on my work as a councilmember and on our collective work as a community defining our own destiny together!

It is a great honor to continue to serve the people of Richmond as we continue to define our destiny by building a city based on health, equity and sustainability. So much has been done to breakthrough the City of Richmond's history of corruption, crime and pollution over the past decade. I am proud to have served as mayor for 8 of those years and for 2 years prior to that as a councilmember. And I am equally proud to continue to have the trust of our community in my current capacity as a Richmond city councilmember.

As I continue my work as an elected official, I am committed to keep alive the story of our incredible breakthrough years of progress from 2004-2014. I continue to be inundated with requests to speak about how we have made such gains. I am always pleased to share our story through these speaking engagements, letting others know that our grassroots organizing model is one that could and should be replicated throughout the country. To further this effort, I am also writing a book so that other communities can use our model as a compass in their own organizing efforts.

I will be using this website to publish updates on my work as a councilmember in the context of the work of our entire City Council. I will also be using this website to share information about my book writing experience - sharing our collective story on how we got to where we are in the amazing City of Richmond!
